My goal is to create a wildlife-friendly, no-mow landscape. When we moved to our property, the only plants on our 1/2-acre lot were Live Oaks, Hackberries, Cedar Elms, Wandering Jew, a Japanese Yew, a few Yaupons, and several invasives (planted by wind, birds, or the previous owners). Well, that wouldn't do.

Planting for wildlife has really guided many of my garden selections, and I choose natives over other plants whenever possible. And now look at how my garden has grown and changed!

Please note: This page is a work in progress. If you notice a plant in the wrong category or with the wrong scientific name, I welcome your comment!

Tree of Heaven --HATE

It's the only invasive species left! But two gigantic trees, ugh. We can’t afford the tree people for awhile – it’s not going to be a DIY project, that’s for sure.
