This is a fun post, Meredith :)
We're very lucky to NOT have fireants here. So sorry you have to deal with them. We do, however, have plenty of wasps.
I haven't spotted any caterpillars yes this year, but I'm sure I will. With our rainy summer the butterflies haven't been very prolific either, but yesterday we had a lovely taste of what summer is supposed to feel like, and the butterflies were enjoying the sunny garden.
Today we're back to rain. I'd gladly share some of it with you Austinites. I'm sure you'd love our cool temps too.
I hope you get a break soon.
A happy medium would be nice, wouldn't it?

LOL! That is truly funny! I'll have to post those up in my yard! You know what I want dead? Earwigs! We're having a major infestation here and they are wreaking havoc on my plants! Ewwww. But like you, we get plenty of wasps and hornets. I found a hornet's nest the other day. What to do? We just got back from vacation from Yellowstone (I just blogged about it) and I was sad to come home to my sunflowers being eaten by some bugs. So annoying!

You have such a great imagination and sense of humor, Meredith!

Best, funniest post I have seen in a while. Hate , hate ahpids!
Rosey.
